Choosing a Neighbourhood on the Corridor
Gated forest lots, a riverside condominium community, chalets with a shared pool, or a lakefront dock: the communities along the highway are a few miles apart and very different places to stay.
Almost every cabin on this site sits within a few miles of Glacier, but the communities they belong to have their own character, their own shared facilities and their own drive to the lifts. None of them is ski-in, ski-out; the ski area is day-use only and about 30 minutes from Glacier. Here is how they differ, from west to east.
Glacier Springs and Glacier
Glacier Springs is a wooded neighbourhood of private cabins a few miles west of town, quiet and spread out, with the highway a short drive away and no community facilities to speak of: you are booking the cabin and the trees. Glacier itself is the town, at milepost 34: Chair 9, Graham's, the bakery, the Public Service Center where the passes are sold, and the last settlement before the mountain, with a handful of cabins within walking distance of all of it.
Mt. Baker Rim
A gated community just east of Glacier, mostly forest lots with individual cabins and A-frames, and the best-documented set of shared facilities on the corridor: a clubhouse with a sauna, pool table, ping-pong and a fire pit, open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; a large outdoor pool from Memorial Day to Labor Day; tennis and pickleball courts; a playground along the Glacier Creek levee. It is the choice for privacy with somewhere to send the kids.
Snowline
Further east along the highway, Snowline is a community of chalets and lodge-style buildings that markets itself on ski-area proximity. The community lists an outdoor pool, a tennis court, a fishing pond, walking trails and picnic areas, and individual listings here often add access to a hot tub and sauna. It suits families who want a pool day and a short drive to the lifts.
Snowater
Snowater is condominiums rather than cabins, with a clubhouse pool and the North Fork Nooksack wrapping three sides of the property. It is a different product: less privacy than a forest lot, more to walk to, and the sound of the river. The ski area is about 30 minutes away.
Maple Falls and Silver Lake
Back down the valley at milepost 28, Maple Falls is the crossroads with the grocery, the visitor centre and the last fuel. Silver Lake, just north of it, is where the lakefront cabins with docks are, beside a 157-acre county park with a boat launch, rentals, swimming and campgrounds that open from mid-April to the end of October. It is the furthest of the communities from the lifts, there is no cell service at the park, and it is the best base for a summer week on the water.
How to choose
Decide whether you want to walk to a pool or sit alone on a deck, then look at the drive time to the lifts on each neighbourhood page. Every cabin lists its community, and the neighbourhood pages show only the cabins that belong to each one, so the comparison is a couple of clicks rather than a spreadsheet.
